Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG announces its cooperation with INTERACTS for brachytherapy education

Seneffe, Belgium, June 12, 2017, Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG has signed a cooperation agreement with the Italian Interventional Radiotherapy Active Teaching School (INTERACTS). The venue of the school, whose Director is Professor Vincenzo Valentini (Rome, Italy) along with Professor György Kovács (Lübeck, Germany) as Program Director, is the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome.

The aim of INTERACTS is to educate physicians and medical physicists in interventional radiotherapy with a special focus on image adapted brachytherapy. The courses offered last for 5 days and follow a multidisciplinary approach with theoretical lessons and practical exercises on brachytherapy equipment and treatment planning systems. Interactive sessions in the operating room are also part of the courses. The teachers are acknowledged international brachytherapy experts, such as Professor Vincenzo Valentini and Professor György Kovács themselves. Treatment sites covered in the INTERACTS courses include the cervix, vagina, uterus, breast, prostate, sarcomas, skin, esophagus, and eye, as well as brachytherapy specialties in children. Professor Valentini adds "The course addresses a globally-growing demand for education in the field of brachytherapy. As for Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG, it is important for us to train and support the next generation of brachytherapy professionals."

Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG, as an industry partner and brachytherapy specialist, will provide demo software and hardware for the courses. Moreover, company specialists will support the training with presentations and field experience. "Many of our global users intend to extend their HDR brachytherapy treatments to new tumor sites and, especially, to the prostate and breast. This course perfectly addresses that demand and helps to make this cost-effective treatment method even more successful in the future", says Dr. Harald Hasselmann, Managing Director of Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG and Member of the Board of Directors of Eckert & Ziegler AG.

The next course will be the 1st INTERACTS COURSE on Interdisciplinary Interventional Radiotherapy from June 19 to 23, 2017. For more information, please go to
